Hani blogs at Craftionary. Recently, she figured out how to turn an old bamboo placemat into pretty bamboo coasters. ”This is the easiest DIY project ever!” she tells us. ”These coasters are great for indoor as well as outdoor use. The quality of material used makes it easy to clean with just a wet wipe.”

Over at Architecture of a Mom, Rachel was looking for some fun, colorful abstract art for a wall in her kitchen. She decided to use an old fan of paint chips to create just the art piece she wanted.

Cassie blogs at The Penny-Wise Mommy. She came across this nightstand in the clearance pile at a thrift shop. ”The top was severely damaged but the piece itself was high quality so I decided I couldn’t go wrong if I brought it home,” she says.

At The Experimental Home, Laura had a couple of deck chairs that were in great condition, but were looking a little…drab. She decided it was time to give them a makeover.

When Alecia of Chicken Scratch came across this chair, it was destined for the dump. It took a lot of scrubbing before she could find the pretty carved details under layers of dirt.

Over at The Space Between, Karah doesn’t find her rescues on the roadside…she finds them on the oceanside! Karah recently moved from an island in the Caribbean to Key West, Florida, so she has plenty of opportunities to go beach combing. One of her favorite things to collect is driftwood.

Julie blogs at Simple Redesign. When she acquired this piece, she decided that having it continue it’s life as a dresser really wasn’t an option. ”I never really liked the waffle pattern on the top drawers. I originally tried to convince myself that it was kinda cool and different, but in the end, they had to go!” she exclaims.

The side table in this makeover was a true rescue. Shanna explains why at Restoration Redoux, “A girlfriend of mine was throwing out this table and when I went to pick it up I knew why. It was scratched, filthy and weighed about a thousand pounds!”

At Art is Beauty, Karin got a call from her uncle one day, asking if she would like to come get an old Federal style buffet he was clearing out of his basement. ”My hubby and I went over and picked it up,” she tells. “It was funny because as we were picking up the buffet pieces were popping off of it and they were worried. I said, ‘I have saved worse than this!’”

“When our Matilija poppies started flowering I knew I wanted to create some pretty vases to show them off,” explains Nicole of The Felted Fox. ”I used plastic bottles which I fished out of the recycling bin.”
