Fashion over 50: Beach Casual

On August 17, 2017 By

HI, friends, thank you so much for the well wishes on our wedding story. It was a thrill for me to share it with all of you because really, you have been a part of my story all along the way and it’s only fitting that you get to see the happy ending.  It’s been a true God journey for me to get to this place and I’m very grateful for it.

Mark and I went to the beach last week with his family and it was so much fun. Well, if you like to sit on the beach, cat nap, and read books then it was fun. That’s about all we did until dinner each evening.  The weather was hot as you’d expect August to be, but the crowds were gone, since most schools are back in already in the Southeast.  We had great weather and only one morning of rain.

Our Wedding in Savannah

On August 15, 2017 By

Twenty months and one day after Mark and I had our first date, we got married in Savannah.  July 29, 2017.  I mentioned 6 years ago on my blog that I hoped that I would find true love one day and that day has definitely arrived.  We can’t always plan for what life may bring, but I’m so thrilled to find real love.  It hasn’t been an easy journey for either of us, we’ve both been through heartache and pain in the past.  To find each other now is such a wonderful time in life, even though we’re both in our 60’s now. It’s never too late for love to find you.

It’s sometimes hard choosing paint colors and it’s really one of those things that should be taken into consideration after fabrics and other things are chosen, but sometimes it’s necessary to find a main paint color and stick to it for continuity throughout the house.  When we decided to paint the walls in our house, we needed a good neutral that would go with everything and it wasn’t going to be a shade of white.  We both like a little color and even though I love white walls and trim many times, this house just seemed to call for a hint of color.

I think we’ve found the perfect one for us!  I’m working with Magnolia Home paint by Kilz and they are providing our interior paint colors, so we tried out several samples of their paint and I have to tell  you, there are some beautiful colors in the Magnolia Home collection.

Hi friends!  I’m back today featuring another really talented blogger, Rachel with Shades of Blue Interiors.  She’s a mama of 3 and lives in a suburban St. Louis home, which she and her hubby have really renovated and made better.  She’s got a sweet vintage style and the girl can build too.  There’s a lot of talent in blogland with these DIYer’s and all the projects they do.  Rachel has such a good eye for styling too, so enjoy her beautiful home tour.

We had a few projects we wanted to get completed right off the bat in our new home and painting the exterior was one that was at the top of the list, along with a few other interior projects.  Mark really didn’t love the existing paint color. I didn’t hate it. But we both agreed that another color would totally enhance the house and make it look visually even more appealing for better curb appeal.

We settled on a painter who was recommended by a good friend of mine (friend recommendations are always the best, you know you can trust them!) and we got an estimate for the interior and exterior painting.  They usually give a discount if you are getting both done at the same time and our painter offered $500 off for booking both interior and exterior painting jobs. So glad we went ahead and got it all done!  It’s going to be nice to move into a freshly painted house and it feels brand new now.

Daddy’s Home!

On August 6, 2017 By

We wondered when this day might come and I’m so happy to share that Daddy came home on Thursday from the rehab!  It was a happy day for all of us, we have been waiting for this wonderful day to arrive!  No one more happy than he was though, he couldn’t wait to get home to the comfort of his favorite recliner and his swing in the back yard. He didn’t waste much time getting out to that swing.

Mom made some of his favorite homegrown veggies for lunch and my sister and I ate with them and it was a big celebration as we sat around that table again for the first time in 6 weeks.  I know many of you have been through these health issues with your elderly family members, but this was a first for us and one that we hope to not repeat anytime soon. We hope and pray that he continues healing and getting better.  He’s walking very well on his walker now and the c diff seems to be at bay, although he’s still on the antibiotics and probiotics to combat this nasty bug.  Overall though, he’s doing great!  He’s getting stronger every day and just getting him up on his feet is a good thing.

As a blogger, I get a lot of emails that come through my inbox and this one from Country Living got my attention when it mentioned the new Country Living Lake house on Lake Martin, AL.  I’ve been to this lake a few times and it is absolutely gorgeous!  There’s a whole spread on Country Living online that you can check out for more details, but here’s the short version, text from the magazine:

Country Living Lake House of the Year, is a collaboration with Nashville architect Jonathan Torode (Pfeffer Torode Architecture), builder Chad Calhoun (Classic Homes), and Russell Lands On Lake Martin, a high-end real estate developer on this Alabama lake, just two hours from Birmingham, and roughly 2.5 from Atlanta.

The Wedding Dress!

On August 2, 2017 By

Hi, friends!  I posted a few pictures on my Facebook and Instagram page, but in case you missed those, Mark and I got married last weekend at Forsyth Park in Savannah and it was the sweetest ceremony.  Simple and easy, just the way we wanted it.  I took a few pics with my phone and we did  have a photographer there taking lots of pics which I should get back in a week or so and I will definitely share many of those when I get them back.  In the meantime, enjoy these few shots of us and me in my wedding dress.  I’ll share all about the wedding venue and all the details about our big day later, but in the meantime enjoy these few pics!

Haven Conference 2017

On August 1, 2017 By

As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been flying in so many directions lately and there’s so much I want to share with y’all!  The 6th annual Haven Conference was one of those things taking my attention lately and it was a huge success again this year.  It was like we all birthed a baby and now we’re seeing her grow and grow! We are so thrilled that the conference has grown and evolved to where it is now and so supported by the home and DIY bloggers every single year.  It was one of those things dreamed up several years ago and to see it come to fruition and last for 6 years is a huge blessing and milestone.

I couldn’t let this year pass without sharing some pics with all of you too, so here’s the recap of Haven.
