I’ve traveled to Orlando a few times over the years, but it’s been quite awhile since I went to Disney World and Epcot. In fact, my niece, Lauren was 5 years old the last time her mom and I took her to Disney for a kid’s trip that she wouldn’t forget. So, that’s over 25 years. But, I headed to Orlando a week or so ago for some relaxation and that didn’t mean hitting Disney World. I think my amusement park days might be numbered. As much as I loved them growing up, the thought of walking around for hours in heat and humidity, standing in line for rides, and paying astronomical amounts of money for food just doesn’t appeal to me like it used to. Call me crazy!

So, the inside of the porch is done, except for those diamonds I’m painting on the floor. Hopefully, I’ll get that done this week. Dad has been working on the stairs for the last couple of weeks and he’s making some good progress on those. Now mind you, these stairs will be far from perfect. His figuring and all is not what it used to be and he can be hard on himself for not getting things right on the carpentry stuff, but it will be stable even if it’s not perfect to look at. That I do know! To the eye, things will be a little wonky and not even close to plumb and perfect, but that’s the way we roll around here. I’m just so glad he is willing to help me get this done.

I love the name of this blog, Simplicity in the South, and Tricia is a DIY gal after my own heart and she’s Southern too. I just love what she’s done with her home in South Carolina. She’s taken a builder’s grade 1980’s home and tackled it room by room, creating such a nice feel for her family of 3 boys. She’s got some great projects and beautiful final pics of her projects and I think you’ll enjoy meeting this DIY girl.

It might be summer right now, but I’m feeling warm and cozy in my living room about now. The gas log project has been finished and I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. I’ll be in good shape come Fall, when those logs will create a nice ambiance in that space. There’s just something so cozy about a fire and with gas logs looking so real these days, I’ve got the look without the mess.

Getting my laundryroom together and making it stylish has really made me feel so good about that space now. What was once a dark and dreary storage/laundry room has now become a full fledged mudroom/laundryroom/storage area and the ugly has mostly been removed. I can’t tell you how exciting that is!

Most of us are on the go during the summer months. Vacations, weekend outings, pool and beach time, it’s just a time of being on the go. I love spending time outdoors during this time of the year and having a pool nearby is a wonderful thing to take advantage of. My friend, Debbie, has a wonderful pool and she lets me come over and use it during the summer. I can’t tell you how enjoyable it is to sit out here and enjoy the sunshine and cool off. She’s a dear friend and I’m so looking forward to getting out there for another season by the pool. It’s great to have friends with pools, right?!

As you saw yesterday, we are steadily working on that screened porch, but in between that project, this hard-working Daddy o’ mine is going strong in his garden. I stopped over there over the weekend and saw the progress and had to show you all what else he’s up to. This man has been gardening for probably 50 years, certainly a long as I can remember and eating these home grown veggies has to have an important impact on my parents health. I’m totally convinced of that.

I’m so happy and excited to be participating in Gina’s Summer tour of Homes this year. She’s the brainstorm behind this fun event and 26 bloggers will be sharing their homes with blogland, all this week. If you’ve missed them, you can see the list of bloggers here, so be sure and go back and [...]

I’ve shared Fab with you before, but I’m back again to show off some highlights for summer from this quirky fun online shop. I’ve been working on my screened porch this month and can’t wait to get out there. So, I was browsing Fab to see what they have and found some fun, fun things that would look really cool on my porch or just for summer in general.

HI, folks!
Our Haven conference is fast approaching on August 1st and my team and I are working feverishly to get everything pulled together. It’s amazing how much time and energy goes into pulling off a conference of this magnitude, but we did it last year and I know this year is going to be even better.
