I have the honor of being a guest over at Annie Selke’s Blog Fresh America today.   Annie Selke is known for her flawless taste, fabrics, Dash & Albert rugs and Pine Cone Hill Bedding, so I wanted to share a project that would compliment her products.  I came up with making a slipcover for [...] read more

My family room has been undergoing some changes over the past few months…years, really.  It’s been one of those slow makeovers that has happened (and is still happening) as the money and time are available.  It started a couple of years ago when I painted the walls and cabinetry and made new curtains.  In January [...] read more

Being just six miles from the beach, how could I resist stitching up this sweet dress in our newest fabric from Tula Pink’s Salt Water collection?

A Seashore Sundress in seashore fabric at the Jersey seashore!

The Seashore Sundress is a fabulous dress pattern from Oliver + S, available in sizes 6M all the way up to +12. Rated one out of four scissors in difficulty, you got this.

The smaller sizes offer these lil’ bloomers, too! But, perhaps more importantly, this dress has pockets! Pockets for collecting seashells and sorts of other small treasures. Because she never . . . → Read More

Grandmom’s Sewing Chair

On May 25, 2013 By

Years ago, I inherited my great grandmother’s sewing chair and have had it in my mind to give it a bit of a makeover ever since. Originally, this chair had a white vinyl seat covering. I’m sure it looked great in its day, Grandmom, but it was time for a fresh look.

I used regular ol’ medium weight quilting cottons to stitch up a mini postage stamp quilt top to cover the seat. To make it a little cushier, I added some batting and fusible fleece to it’s underside before stapling it down. If you’re worried about it not . . . → Read More

Can you ever REALLY have enough tote bags? Negative. Nada. No. I mean, everybody’s got stuff to tote. Today is chilly and drizzly here in the windy city and I’m still not allowed to drive. Perfect day to sew a new tote bag for summer. Gathered my supplies and my helper… Her job is to push the pedal. kidding. And to obliterate all scraps of [...]

With such weird Spring weather lately, this heat and humidity has taken me a bit by surprise. Now, it’s a little trickier for grown-up gals, but for little girls the simplest solution once the heat hits is a lightweight dress like Oliver + S’ Popover Sundress. It’s a free pattern you can find right here.

If this dress looks familiar, I made one before in Cloud9 Fabrics Simpatico cottons. The Popover Sundress is such a fun and simple dress to make that I couldn’t resist making another. This time I used Dear Stella Designs’ Confetti Dot as the main . . . → Read More

After I finished up a friend’s curtain panels, I was on a major sewing kick.  I had just purchased this beautiful citron-ish fabric a few weeks ago, and knew it’d tie perfectly into our house…it was just a matter of where I’d use it.I decid…

Hello, Hello Shabby Creek Cottage Readers!

I’m Heather from The Sewing Loft and can I just say that I’m excited to be kickin’ it here with Gina and hanging with you!

The Sewing Loft

Honestly, when Gina asked if I was interested in sharing a few projects on SCC- I was like- heck yeah girl, I’d loved to. You see, I met Gina almost 2 years ago in St. Paul, it was one of those easy introductions from a friend and to be honest, the rest is history. Fast forward to today and Gina is one of those go to friends that you feel like you have known forever!

Mannequin Door Stop | The Sewing Loft

Alright, enough of the back story- it’s time to show you the goods! Spring in my house means the windows are wide open, the only trouble is that this always causes my doors to slam shut at the wrong moment. (think during a conference call, dead of night or when taping a how to project. You name it, it’s happened!) So, that is why door stops are a MUST in my world.

This is a simple project that even a newbie stitcher can tackle.
